On Seeing and Visualising brings together three artists who orientate themselves on political and social realities and deal with them critically and reflectively in their works. Their photographic, filmic and installation works can be located in the field of documentary and at the same time point beyond it. The panel outlines the different approaches of the three positions and at the same time works out their specific interest in the photographic. In addition, it asks about the changing character of the documentary and its possibilities for artistic practice today. The question of the tense relationship between seeing and knowing still seems relevant – and which strategies of visualisation can be derived from this in order to create other spaces of the social and political.
