Die deutsche Fotografin Gundula Schulze Eldowy zeigt in der Ausstellung Das unfassbare Gesicht Farbfotografien, die an verschiedenen Orten Perus und Boliviens von Lambayeque, über Trujillo, Casma, Lima, Marcahuasi, Nazca, Cuzco bis Tiahuanacu entstanden und inhaltlich von der Kunst der präinkaischen Kulturen inspiriert sind. Im Verlaufe ihrer Arbeit entdeckte Schulze Eldowy in den Darstellungen der alten Peruaner unzählige Gesichter und ging daraufhin der Frage nach, was eigentlich ein Gesicht sei. Sie fotografierte ca. 2000 Gesichter, ganz nah mit Close-up-Linsen, meist nur Augen, Nase, Mund immer derselbe Ausschnitt. Menschen, die sie auf der Straße traf, Gesichter von Tieren, Gesichter in der Wüste von Nazca, Felsgesichter in den Anden, Gesichter von Naturgeistern, Trophäenköpfe, Mumien, Keramikgesichter, Skulpturen, Goldmasken Und sie alle scheinen eine Art Zentralcode zu haben, nach dem sie geschaffen worden sind.
