Berlin als Trümmerwüste brannte sich ins kollektive Gedächtnis ein. Nach dem Krieg wurde es Frontstadt. Die Mauer traumatisierte meine Generation. Bis 1984 fotografierte ich in Ostberlin die maroden Häuser mit den Einschusslöchern, die Baulücken, die Straßen mit den Kohlehaufen. Kleine-Leute-Gegend. Die größte Wunde der Stadt erlebte ich erst, als ich mich nach 1985 der Mauer von der anderen Seite nähern konnte. Die temporäre Nutzung des brachen Grenzlandes als autonomes Experimentierfeld oder als skurriler Picknick-Platz. Hier wie da fast dörflich anmutende Strukturen mit sehr unterschiedlichen Akteuren. Verlangsamte Zeit, Abwesenheit materieller Triebkräfte. Nach dem Mauerfall kam die Rekonstruktion der Stadtmitte. Austausch der Bevölkerung. Luxus-Sanierung. Heute suche ich nach Spuren. Und nach dem Neuen, Fremden. Der subjektive Blick der Passantin bleibt erhalten. Streiflichter, Assoziationen, Gesichter. (Barbara Metselaar Berthold)
