Mit der Distanz von 20 Jahren zeigt die Galerie der Kunststiftung Poll Bilder von den Repräsentationsbauten der in jenem Moment implodierenden DDR. 1992 kam Doug Hall nach Berlin, angezogen von der gegenwärtig gewordenen Geschichte und dem Versprechen plötzlicher Veränderungen. Wie angegossen passte die vorgefundene realsozialistische Ästhetik zu seinem Wahrnehmungsstil, konnte er eine zentrale Renaissance-Perspektive verwenden, um die Allmacht von Ordnung, Monotonie und Farbigkeit in den Motiven zu betonen. Die 156 x 123 cm großen hochformatigen Abzüge, ganz in der Linie der amerikanischen Fotografie der letzten Jahrzehnte, vermitteln beim Betrachter einen bedrückend-erhabenen Eindruck und verleihen ihnen gleichzeitig in ihrer mathematischen Formel Präsenz. Wie versiegelt erscheinen uns heute die Zeugnisse machtvollen Auftretens in ihrer funktionalen Strenge der 1970er Jahre und vor dem Hintergrund einer wie Hall es beschrieb heimischen Atmosphäre der Nachkriegsjahre.
