László Moholy-Nagy (18951946) ist eine der bedeutendsten Persönlichkeiten der Moderne. Licht ist das Fundament seines praktischen und theoretischen Wirkens. Für ihn erhält jede Kunst nur dann Sinn und Bedeutung, wenn sie Licht reflektiert. Moholy-Nagy ist der Erfinder des Fotogramms, der direkten Belichtung von Foto- bzw. Filmpapier ohne Verwendung einer Kamera.
Der Martin-Gropius-Bau zeigt das künstlerische Werk Moholy-Nagys mit über 200 Arbeiten: Gemälde, Fotografien (schwarz-weiß und farbig), Fotogramme und Collagen, Filme sowie Grafik.
