Fünf Fotografen an der Schnittstelle von Fotografie und Modernisierung. Der Titel, entliehen aus Chaplins Meisterwerk, spielt an auf die Skepsis und Ergebenheit der Menschen gegenüber dem technischen Fortschritt. Bezugnehmend auf das Phänomen globaler Verstädterung zeigt Alexandra Schraepler Fotos aus ihrer Serie China Transformationen. Auch Sabine Wild blickt nach Asien. Sie transformiert die Architektur Shanghais mittels digitaler Bildbearbeitung. Jörg Schmiedekind Adlershof spürt dem Rückzug in die Idylle und dem Festhalten an traditionellen Wohnkonzepten in diesem Stadtbezirk nach. Matthias Hagemanns Arbeit mit Langzeit-Lochkameras ermöglicht eine einzige Aufnahme über Monate hinweg Langsamkeit wird so den klassischen Elementen der Modernisierung wie Dynamik und Geschwindigkeit entgegengesetzt. Susanne Wehr zeigt in sightseeing Fotografien aus ihrer umfangreichen Sammlung anonymer Privatfotografien (Volks-Bild) und analysiert darin das Verhalten von Touristen im Stadtraum.
