Ione Rucquoi (*1975 in Oxford, GB) untersucht in ihren Fotos die historische Rolle der Frau und spielt dabei zugleich mit altmodischen Vorstellungen und Ressentiments. Ausgehend von der traditionellen Idee der weiblichen Porträtmalerei als bloßer Dekoration zeigt Rucquoi ihre Protagonistinnen als Objekte der Begierde. Ihr Werk ist zutiefst mit ihrem Alltag verflochten, gibt Biografisches wie Erwachsenwerden, Erotik, Schwangerschaft und Geburt preis. Doch nicht das Gewöhnliche wird bei Rucquoi zum Thema, sondern das Unheimliche, das sie in jeder Realität vermutet und dessen Grenzen sie zu überschreiten sucht. Virtuos spielt sie dabei mit den Stereotypen und Tabus der weiblichen Psychologie und übersetzt diese in Symbole, die fester Bestandteil der strengen Sprache ihrer klassisch aufgebauten Arbeiten sind. Malerisch, spannungsvoll und bizarr rufen diese Fotos Assoziationen hervor, stellen so eine besondere Herausforderung für die Einbildungskraft und Kreativität des Betrachters dar.
