Luis Ramón Marín (18841944), Pionier des spanischen Fotojournalismus, zählt zu den bedeutendsten Fotografen des Landes. Sein Werk umfasst u. a. Aufnahmen der Königsfamilie, Alltagsszenen aus Madrid sowie unzählige Porträts von Intellektuellen, Künstlern und Sportlern. Maríns Bilder erzählen aber auch von dunklen Kapiteln der spanischen Geschichte, zeigen Flüchtlinge, Militär, zerstörte Städten und Kriegszenarien. Nach dem Ende des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs wurden seine Arbeiten nicht mehr in Zeitungen veröffentlicht, gerieten in Vergessenheit und galten gar lange Zeit als verschollen. Erst nach dem Tod der Witwe Maríns übergab die Familie das in deren Wohnung versteckte und so der drohenden Zerstörung entzogene Werk wieder der Öffentlichkeit. Das Archiv mit über 18.000 Werken Luis Ramón Maríns befindet sich seitdem in der Stiftung Fundación Pablo Iglesias. Rund 60 dieser Bilder werden nun erstmals in Deutschland zu sehen sein.
