Michael Wolf ist bekannt für seine großformatigen Architekturfotografien aus Chicago und vor allem Hongkong, wo er seit mehr als 15 Jahren lebt.
In einer großen Stadt sind auch die Bilder der neuen Arbeit entstanden: Tokio. Tokios Architektur ist aber hier nicht das Thema. Für Tokyo Compression hat Michael Wolf den Irrsinn des Tokioer U-Bahn-Systems ins Visier genommen. Für die Aufnahmen hat er sich einen Ort ausgesucht, der ihm unbarmherzig im Minutentakt neue Bilder vor die Kamera fährt.
Abertausende betreten jeden Tag für zwei oder mehr Stunden diese Untergrundhölle und rollen eingezwängt zwischen Glas, Stahl und anderen Menschen unter der Stadt zur Arbeit und zurück nach Hause. In Michael Wolfs Bildern sehen wir in zahllose Gesichter von Menschen, die auf ihre Weise versuchen, den offenkundigen Wahnsinn zu ertragen.
Michael Wolf wird zur Eröffnung anwesend sein. Parallel zur Ausstellung erscheint das Buch Tokyo Compression als Koproduktion von Peperoni Books und Asia One.
