NEW YORK Livin' in the hood

Unter dem Titel NEW YORK Livin in the hood präsentiert die aff-Galerie Bilder von zwei New Yorker sowie zwei Berliner Fotografen, die das New York der kleinen Leute thematisieren. Es handelt sich um Aufnahmen aus den sogenannten Neighbourhoods (u.a. Lower Manhattan, TribeCa, Harlem, SoHo), der dort lebenden und arbeitenden Menschen und ihrer Umgebung.
Die vier Fotografen interpretieren das Thema dabei auf ihre eigene Art. So etwa als inszenierte Straßenporträts (Chris Zedano), als klassische Straßenfotografie mit Fokus auf skurille Situationen und den entscheidenden Augenblick (David Battel / Jörg Rubbert) oder als atmosphärische Annäherung an den Makrokosmos New York mit Hilfe einer einfachen Holga-Kamera (Oliver Jacob). Die in analoger Technik entstandenen und in dokumentarischem Schwarz-Weiß gehalten Bilder umfassen eine Zeitspanne von Anfang der neunziger Jahre bis heute, so dass neben Transformationsprozessen auch etliche Parallelen in dem Leben der Bewohner erkennbar werden.
