The famous photographic artist Raïssa Venables (born 1977) is fascinated by spaces as bodies by their texture, lines and colours. Her new exhibition is concerned with public and representative places. Especially in Europe, she finds spaces that are powerfully charged with cultural-historical significance. The impressions left by these spaces, which for the most part are experienced unconsciously, are visualised by Venables with a high degree of sensitivity. Like a kaleidoscope, what she gives us is a confusing play of perceptions. What appears to be a self-explanatory whole when taken as a motif is in reality a fan consisting of a number of digitally blurred individual images, which come together to yield a virtual impression of space. It is frequently unclear where reality leaves off and the photographers imagination takes over. As a result of the artists intervention, physical space becomes more capable of being experienced than in any form of traditional photography, and even as compared with reality itself. Space acquires an extension in the form of a fourth, emotional dimension.
