Ever since the years in which Frank Silberbach published his photographic panoramas every week in the Saturday magazine supplements of the Berliner Zeitung, panoramic photography has formed an important part of his activities. As a Berlin photographer and native of the big city, he naturally focuses on the citys inhabitants. Here he follows in the tradition of street photography and life photography, though with the important difference that it makes the panoramic form even more difficult to handle the whole breadth of the canvas needs to be filled up, if you are going to create a real picture. Over the years Frank Silberbach has developed a photographic eye with a sixth sense, based on the deliberate use of intuition. He anticipates the unfolding of complex scenarios which can be captured in the decisive moment of denouement. With a pronounced sense of situation, Frank Silberbachs pictures present us with authentic everyday scenes abstaining from harsh judgments, but with a frequent undertone of ironic humour.
