Anyone planning to become a professional photographer today is likely to be told Stay clear of that! Photographers arent needed any longer! Photography is pointless! It wont pay the bills!
It doesnt have to be that way and that is the message of the DEKADE I [DECADE I] exhibition. For 10 years the BEST-Sabel Berufsfachschule für Design [Professional Design College] in Köpenick has been turning out graduates every year with successful state examination results, and sending them off into a professional career. This was a good enough reason for us to invite our graduates to take part in a group exhibition. Having completed their training, they have all made a successful start in professional life and look back here on their personal successes.
DEKADE I shows photographic works that have been created either independently or in response to a commission. Each artist taking part presents a cross-section of his or her work, or a specific project something individual and characteristic. The BEST-Sabel Design College imposes no restrictions but aims to give the artists the support and the organisation required, functioning as the bracket for their shared creative activity.
