The IBB Award for Photography is a joint initiative of Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) and the Freundeskreis der Universität der Künste Berlin e.V. [Friends of the Berlin University of the Arts Association] Karl Hofer Gesellschaft (KHG) [Karl Hofer Society]. The award is endowed with a sum of 5000.
The prize is dedicated to the support of outstanding graduates of the University of the Arts who have graduated in the last five years and are not more than 35 years of age. Besides giving special promotion to young artists, the prize is designed to document the development of contemporary photography in a general sense.
With this competition, which was set up in 2007, the IBB underlines its intention to lend support to young artists in Berlin and to give them the opportunity of presenting their works to a wide public. The partnership with KHG and the University of the Arts moreover shows the significance of photography in the spectrum of modern art. Probably no other medium is so well qualified to cast light on the interaction of art and technology.
