László Moholy-Nagy (18951946) is one of the most important personalities of Modernism. Light is the foundation of his work, both practical and theoretical. In his view, the arts without exception lack sense and meaning unless they reflect light. Moholy-Nagy was the inventor of the photogram the direct exposure of photographic or film paper, without any use of the camera.
With over 200 works, the Martin Gropius Building is showing Moholy-Nagys oeuvre comprising paintings, photographs (both black and white and in colour), photograms and collages, films and graphics.
