The EMERSON Gallery Berlin is presenting photographs by Leonard Nimoy (born in Boston in 1931), who became internationally famous in the role of the legendary Captain Spock in the cult movie series Star Trek.
Less well known are Nimoys highly sensuous, generally black and white photographs. This is his first photographic exhibition in Berlin. It shows pictures from his series The Full Body Project. With great sensitivity, Leonard Nimoy not only challenges the slim beauty ideal of the supermodel he also questions purely commercial fashion photography as such. By photographing the naked bodies of full-figured, spirited and very sensuous women, he reveals in every sense of the word the questionability of the genre, with its discriminating function as a standard for dissemination of a culturally conditioned ideal physical build. Nimoys women take up poses that echo well-known icons of art and the world of the media.
