The exhibition project Nach Neuem Trachten [New Look, New Costumes] takes its point of departure in some historic shots by Wolf Lücking, making these the occasion for a renewed photographic engagement with traditional costume. Lückings photos from the 1950s show the traditional costumes of the Schaumburger Land in the context of daily life.
In the spring of 2010 students from the university Fachhochschule Hannover set out with their cameras to track down the historical evidence. Each with an approach of his or her own, they researched the textile tradition of the region as it exists at the present time. Their findings range from documentary shots to associative views of the costumes of today.
Works have been created for the Berlin exhibition which reflect global and regional aspects alike. The Schaumburger Land and its costumes make an impression that is at times antiquated, at times contemporary, but always highly individual as individual as the peasant women photographed by Wolf Lücking half a century ago.
