The street as the stage of life never before has a medium been able to record such spontaneous and authentic images of big city life as did photography. The basis for this was the invention of the small frame camera in the mid-1920s, making it possible to focus on the city and its inhabitants without any elaborate efforts. For this years Month of Photography, which sets out to pose the question of the role of photography in the modernisation of the world we live in, Kunsthandel Jörg Maass, under the title of Street Photography. Examples from Six Decades, presents an overview of the street as a multifarious living space that is in constant flux. The exhibition covers the important years of street photography, first of all in Europe and later in America, from the 1930s to the early 1990s and beyond. Internationally famous photographers featuring include Brassaï, Brandt, Callahan, Cartier-Bresson, Davidson, Faurer, Levinstein, Levitt, Weegee and others.
