The Deutscher Jugendfotopreis [German Prize for Young Photographers] is the most important photographic and imaging competition for children and young people in Germany. It is organised by the Kinder- und Jugendfilmzentrum in Deutschland (KJF) [Centre of Films for Children and Young People in Germany] on behalf of the Bundesministerium für Familie, Senioren, Frauen und Jugend [Federal Ministry for the Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Young People].
The exhibition Wunderland etc. [Wonderland etc.] presents around 200 pictures by some 50 prizewinners between 4 and 25 years of age who received Deutscher Jugendfotopreis awards in 2010. The photos yield insights into the worlds, thoughts and feelings of children, adolescents and young adults. No matter whether they represent realities of the media, inner worlds of fantasy or voyages of discovery into real reality, these photographs always reveal new and surprising perceptions. These works document the significance of photography for young people, located as it is in the borderland between fascination and reflection. They present pictorial worlds of the contemporary young photographic scene, while at the same time highlighting elementary symbols of todays youth culture.
