My photos pose questions about the recollection of place a distorted, imaginary reality create something out of spaces of ambiguity. I play with my recipients capability of mental grasp it is up to them to verify or to falsify something that actually does not make sense.
Tom Leightons large-format works show squares in big cities which have a special significance for us. But rather than replicating them 1 to 1, he plays with the attentiveness of his viewers. With perfect staging, he combines different city squares with new architecture, so creating new locations which at first sight look familiar, then confuse us and finish by evoking feelings of amazement. Virtually impercetably, Tom Leighton creates something new which develops an aesthetic of its own, makes an incredibly beautiful impression and is at the same time flawlessly staged.
