Frontal encounters, fleeting, unexpected, direct. People photographed up close and personal. A breath of reality, cut out with flash and a wide angle lens. Stefan Enders dissects moments of reality. A fleeting encounter gives rise to an aperçu of extreme intimacy. The works on exhibit were created in different countries and cultures but they can still be seen as representing a connected cycle overall, describing the vision and the search of the artist.
Enders studied painting in the Faculty of Art of the University of Mainz and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf [Düsseldorf Art Academy], before coming to focus increasingly on photography. Besides freely developed projects, he has been working since 1986 for magazines and journals as a reporter and portrait photographer. In 2005 he was appointed Professor of Photography at Fachhochschule Mainz [Mainz University of Applied Sciences]. He lives in Cologne and Mainz.
