When I was 18 years old, I visited London alone for the first time. One year before taking my Abitur [A levels] in Osnabrück, there I was knocking about in a strange capital with my hopelessly limited command of the language. Driving on the left, queueing, the tolerance and idiosyncracies of the English, double-decker buses, the constricted underground, half a dozen railway stations it was all new to me! I am glad to say that the passion for photography and fascination for the jungle of the megalopolis have stayed with me in my work right through to the present day. (Rudi Meisel)
