At the start of 2007, various things happened which caused me to create this series of pictures. As a result of changes in my life I felt it necessary to define myself, to find out who I really was, and in this way I discovered values which enriched my life. In this phase I got back into photography again, after years of abstinence, and my relationship with the camera acquired a deeper meaning. Although I had grown up in the country, I wanted to understand my relationship with the city, where I had spent the greater part of my life. After long pondering, discussions and indecision, I realised that the challenge, for me, was to work out relationships with my camera, myself and my city. Here it became plain to me that whether on my own or with other people, I was always a social being. So I got out there and registered with all the honesty, humility and sensitivity that I was capable of what in my eyes life in a state of becoming amounts to. (James Clancy)
