PUBLIC VIEWING presents recent photographs by EVOL and JUST, two omnipresent figures in Berlin's vibrant street art community.
EVOL, a graffiti writer, stencil artist and photographer, is best known for his public artworks that make reference to architecture and the urban condition. His images of atypical city scenes are both ironic and nostalgic, isolating moments of humour, poetry and melancholic beauty within the urban sphere.
JUST's pictures of his fellow street artists have been described by legendary graffiti photojournalist Martha Cooper as, "dramatic documents of daring graffiti artists in action. Through them you can vicariously experience the danger and thrills of rooftop writing." JUST also captures scenes of social unrest, political upheaval and subculture youth movements. His images have appeared in The New York Times, Modart, Spiegel Online, TAZ, ART Magazine and the Berliner Zeitung, among others.
Together, the photographs of EVOL and JUST provide a provocative and unique perspective of contemporary metropolitan life by two artists who have (quite literally) left their mark on the urban landscape of Berlin, and beyond.
