Marketplace, Parking Place, Playground
Die räumliche "Rückeroberung" von städtischen Plätzen
Gotisches Haus
organised by: Stadtgeschichtliches Museum Spandau
In all cities large or small, the market place has always been a central point. This was once the location of the town hall and the central focus of commerce. In the course of time, the market place lost its economic importance. At the same time it was stripped of its function as a communication platform and meeting place for the locals. It became just part of the road network, and a parking space for vehicles. In the course of the renovation of the historic city centre of Spandau and the creation of a new pedestrian zone, the old locality of the citizens as a living space has been restored. Now it is more than just a place for the weekly market it is also a place to shop, to play and to spend time in. The exhibition shows views of the market from the last century, extending from 1900 to 2000.
