The exhibition 'Strata of Power' shows the artist's coming to grips with the structures of his urban environment and those of nature.
The group 'Multiples', initiated with the water pictures of 'Abbadia, 1999', represents a photographic approach in which Neusser uses multiple exposures (hence the title) in a visually emphatic way to strengthen, abstract and alienate the object of experience. The appeal of this for the artist lies in the surprising effect of the picture as it comes into being through the layering of multiple analogue exposures, so distancing itself from the original perception and forming a compressed abstraction of the various subjects. The photographer's interest in this material focuses on the alienation and redefinition of a general fund of images drawn from everyday life.
