1968. A Borderline Year
Uliano Lucas
The student and workers’ movements from 1967 to 1969 were an expression of social upheaval that rose up out of the “miracolo economico”. The exhibition “1968. A Borderline Year” by the photojournalist Uliano Lucas presents the dramatic events of those years: a right-wing extremist bombing of a Milan bank, the struggle for more workers’ rights, a fairer wage policy, decent housing, the rise of the women’s movement in a male-dominated society, and the demonstrations against the war waged by the United States on Vietnam and against the Chilean dictatorship of General Pinochet. Other themes addressed by the Milan-based photographer are the huge changes in the working world and the transition to a modern urban society, which was anything but smooth—ethical impulses that triggered the protest movements.
Approximately seventy images explore the history and reasons behind the protest movements and let us experience these years of worldwide social upheaval from an Italian perspective, little known in Germany.

The 1968 in the Italian cinema
LectureIn his various writings Goffredo Fofi, film and literary critic, journalist and writer, often dealt with the 1968 movement.
He analyzed the years before and after this period and its influence not only from a social, political but also from a cultural and artistic point of view.
Throughout the evening, Fofi's focus will be specifically on how the protests connected with the 1968 movement strongly influenced and found room in the Italian cinema.
