Sanna Kannisto

Gallery Taik Persons is delighted to show Sanna Kannisto’s most recent works, in which she explores the relationship between nature and science. Kannisto uses irony and humor to investigate the concept of truth in photography and to ask how we actually want to view nature. Through her rainforest studies in Peru, French Guiana, and Brazil, she became a visual researcher, borrowing working methods from natural sciences, anthropological practices, and from the tradition of still-life painting and interpreting them in new ways. In her works, she stages portable “field studios”, which remove objects from their original context in nature and direct the viewer’s attention toward the act of observation and the specific characteristics of her subjects. Kannisto’s most recent works focus on birds and changing seasons in her native country of Finland.
