This exhibition presents Iranian society in a way that reaches beyond stereotypes, demonstrating that humanistic concerns always accompany contact and exchange. The same questions apply to European societies: how do bodies, corporeality and closeness reveal the human condition? In the context of the feminist protests in Iran in 2022, what role does state regulation play? And in terms of exile in Europe or the effects and restrictions of the Corona pandemic, how can relationships be maintained? What impact do humans have on nature and how do threatening climate changes affect everyday life in Iran? Shakeri’s photographic works cover a broad visual spectrum of poetics and abstraction; they have a documentary quality. His photographs involve the viewer in a subtle game of proximity and distance, identification and difference.
