‘The focus here is on all these skins that allow contact with the world by forming a boundary with it, by reaching out to capture signals’. Pola Sieverding’s work considers the physical body as a carrier of historical narratives that shape contemporary discourses about the social body. From the very beginning, Sieverding has been concerned with visualizing a metaphor between skin and screen – between the skin and the projection surface – and using the mediality of skin and the dynamic between culturally and socially shaped body images and how bodies become images as essential aspects to understanding our relationship to the world.
Contact Zone explores intimate moments between the subject and the outside world, between a sensual, physical understanding and a contact with the world through media and technology.
