This is a work about two border towns united by a similar fate. At the end of the Second World War, the towns of Görlitz/Zgorzelec (in Germany and Poland) and Gorizia/Nova Gorica (in Italy and Slovenia) were divided by a frontier. They are now the hot spots of a New Europe.
'These photos show inhabitants of a border region ordinary human beings and urban situations that are to be met with anywhere: a girl with a warm woollen cap, a red-haired woman holding the hand of a child dressed in a green anorak, two girls (one of them with trendy spectacles), a green bench against a concrete wall, a playground in snow... The frontier itself is not shown. It remains in the background, we know that it is there, not far off, perhaps just a stone's throw away, but we do not see it. And yet of course it does exist above all in people's minds, where it has become a firmly established fact, perhaps even more powerful psychologically than in reality.' (Martin Pollack)
