Two exhibitions are presented here in parallel, the first showing works by the famous Spanish duo of artists Democracia. Their creations have been on show in many museum exhibitions most recently one under the curatorship of Hans Ulrich Obrist.
The title of the exhibition relates to Democracia's video project of the same name. In 2007 the Madrid municipal council decided that El Salobral, one of the biggest slums in Europe and situated on the southern periphery of the capital, should be demolished and its inhabitants resettled. The video installation 'Smashing the ghetto' documents the destruction of the quarter as if it were a sporting event or a voyeuristic spectacle.
At the same time the group exhibition 'Beyond The Boundaries' is being presented. The works of artists like Mitra Tabrizian, Fuchs and Maleonn, which have just come from the group exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, all focus on the testing of boundaries consistently in search of the difference between familiar reality and the absurd.
