The artistic portrait, in its physical, social and psychic presence, constitutes the theme of the current exhibition.
The layered collages of Sybille Hoessler link past and present. Her elaborately arranged photographic installations play with the disfigurement and delay of the past.
Anastasia Cazabon works with the self-presentation of the persons portrayed. The photos of the American artist ring changes on the tension-charged moment between the seeking I and self-realisation, between dream and reality, childhood and growing up.
Yotta Kippe is her own model. But these anonymous faces, which fascinate us with their suggestion of the uncanny, have little to do with conventional portraiture. More important is the definition of the countenance as a starting point for the symbolism of the pictures.
Chan-Hyo Bae writes: Three years ago, I arrived in London. Since I feel still a stranger here in England. Through my camera I have tried to show my feelings of isolation and alienation... (Christina Wendenburg)
