Ines Hertel lives in Berlin, where she works as a freelance photographer. Her documentary photography reflects what is special in historical events, with a particular focus on their social, political and cultural consequences. She presents her pictures in series which are devoted to different aspects of the world we live in. Her pictorial idiom traces aesthetic and psychological aspects of the subject. Alongside her picture series Ms Hertel also works with text materials as an additional element, with the aim of approximating to a holistic point of view. The exhibition at Museum Neukölln shows ten of her large-format family portraits. In researching this project the photographer worked over a period of several months with young people aged from 13 to 18, coming from different social, ethnic and educational backgrounds.
