Just pictures
A silent micromechanism of contextual connection operates between the photographs of Gino Puddu, Paolo Primiero and Franco Molfrani. What a single picture or a photographer on his own could not succeed in creating here acquires a new guise in the differences between Puddu's dumb missives, Primiero's listening for signs of life and the joyous aperçus of Molfrani.
If the viewer tries to take the pictures in a literal sense, he becomes a victim of their redundancy; if he looks for meaning, he hits upon dogged resistance. Without any strategy for their reception for finding a place in the world as it is the pictures create, on a point by point basis, the foundation for any kind of perception: a kind of free-floating feeling.
By contrast with the story of the emperor's new clothes, however, here the new garment does gradually come into view showing that perhaps it is only in this way that the changing being of the city can be adequately expressed. Technology, presentation and articulation come together, in the one case as in the other, to create moments of transition communicating a message in virtue of their position.
