Born in 1978, the photographer Ingo Mittelstaedt gives us pictures that explore the isolation and re-enactment of familiar elements of collective recollection and individual perception. These works function like a kind of déjà vu experience, reproducing feelings of familiarity and unease at the same time. His photographs are complex riddles: they make use of, prescribe, imitate and take advantage of the fact that our senses are impatient to register phenomena and judge them, and so are very susceptible to deception.
This is Ingo Mittelstaedt's first solo exhibition at Galerie koal. It includes new photographs created during his scholarship abroad in Istanbul, under the auspices of the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes [German National Merit Foundation].
