The flood of images is a matter of everyday experience. One answer is, 'I haven't got time'. If people cast their glance in this direction, they move on quickly. So the message needs to be speedily decipherable. This is the point of departure for the pictures of Dirk Hanus. Perfect in terms of craftsmanship, they suggest the smooth advertising aesthetic of the present day. But just at the point where the eye actually wants to pass on, this series has a hook that prevents it happening. The light is not logical. The light treatment is often unclear. We find a lack of clarity, dark areas, open doors and curious cupboards superilluminations. These irritations form the focal point of every single picture of the series. At that focal point we find a human being standing, lying or crouching caught in a situation the meaning of which is not obvious to the viewer at the first glance. Perhaps not even at the second or third glance. Perhaps not at all. What happens outside of our angle of vision, what is beyond our perceptual horizon? We don't know but we would like to. And we ourselves are already caught up, now, in these inner spaces.
