In her solo exhibition 'Lichtungen' ['Clearings'] for the Third European Month of Photography in Berlin 2008, the young Dresden artist Antka Hofmann presents cyanotypes and her own specially created 'sporotypes' at the KOMET BERLIN Galerie.
The work of Antka Hofmann is located in the area of experimental photography, though without the use of the camera. The different methods by which she works are united by the linking element of time. This is understood in the sense of 'taking time', being deliberately counterposed to the hectic pace of modern times. Through the play of light and shade, Ms Hofmann's work achieves tranquil and highly mysterious effects. In her poetically sensuous cyanotypes, the artist creates images of blue shadow with the help of long-time exposure; while her 'sporotypes' give rise to microcosmic worlds in their own right through the use of organic spore materials. The objective is not just the fleeting moment, but a palpable and absolute grasp of the reality with which we are confronted.
