Christoph Brech (born 1964) has created spatial installations, photos and video films in which nature and civilisation, anonymous history and individual recollection, ritual and sound melt together to give authentic pictures of a present in which the viewer is compelled to orient and assert himself. With an alert mind and with great conceptual force, Brech creates works in which time is consciously experienced and space is attentively measured out so as to determine the location of the perceiving subject. The exhibition Limbus at Kunstagenten Contemporary Art Gallery is being shown in parallel to 'Mutations II - Moving Stills' at Berlinische Galerie, and consists of new works by Christoph Brech. These include the video 'The wind that shakes the barley', in which the gravestones of unbaptised children on a steep cliff over a raging sea in the west of Ireland become a silent and unpathetic memorial, and 'Quatuor Ébène / Trois Mouvements' [' Ébène String Quartet / Three Movements'], an unusual portrait of the young Parisian string quartet Quatuor Ébène.
