Synchronicity plays a major part in the work of photographer Paul Albert Leitner. When a friend of his, the cultural journalist Thomas Miessgang, sent him a cassette with a selection of musical numbers ranging from Jaques Brel to Frank Sinatra, he put together a collection of photos from his extensive work on the basis of their associative suggestions. The result is a loose weave of chance histories, where animals, women, self-portraits and even kitsch love stories photographed from the television screen converge.
Paul Albert Leitner was born in Jenbach, Austria, in 1957. While studying commercial photography over a period of three years, he became increasingly interested in photography as an art form. He has been working as a freelance artist since 1986. He has had solo exhibitions in Innsbruck, Graz, Salzburg, Vienna, Frankfurt am Main, Bremen, Bolzano, Turin, Dakar, Andelsbuch, Warsaw and Helsinki, as well as being involved in numerous shared exhibitions both at home and abroad.
