Jean Toches computer-generated art is decidedly political. He combines self-portraits, full body photos and individual bodily details in a digital photographic rendering with texts on burning themes from all over the world, in relation to which he takes up an unambiguous stance. His work can be seen as a modern continuation of the famous Jaccuse ! of Emile Zola in relation to the Dreyfuss Affair. Toches accusation and attitude of protest are authentically underpinned by pictures from his own directly personal and private life.
The themes that interest Toche are political conflict, war and the suppression of democracy, and racism and sexism all over the world. His original aesthetic approach makes these the subject of big tableaus backed up by colour fields, photographs and texts. This form of political art is not very widespread, and it is the first time that major works by Toche have been seen in Berlin. The exhibition also includes examples of his earlier Mail Art, which he sent out to many addresses worldwide between 2000 and 2004.
