Tatsumi Orimoto realises his 'Breadman' performances all over the world, in a wide variety of contexts. He is always a protagonist in these, sometimes with just a few others, sometimes with many other actors. At the start of the performance 'Punishment', 26 participants in the guise of bread sellers marched into the Kawasaki City Museum in Tokyo, where they were tied to stakes and blindfolded. On a given call, they began to move in such a way that the bread fell off their vendors' trays, and in the end it looked as if they had collapsed out of exhaustion. The connection with torture and execution may seem a little strange at first but it cannot be denied that in many regions of the globe, especially in urban locations, the population are no longer even able to keep themselves alive by selling things on the streets.
