Under the title In My Manor, Tacita Dean presents new works created during the years spanning from 2005 to 2008. Her work condenses the genres of film, photography, drawing and etching into an artistic vocabulary of its own. In this exhibition, Tacita Dean references German history of the twentieth century. The film Darmstädter Werkblock [block of works from the city of Darmstadt] and Michael Hamburger delineate ways in which she deals with memory, the past and the present in a manner that is as quiet and intense, as it is varied. With her work Die Regimentstochter [The Daughter of the Regiment], the artist draws our gaze to a fascinating document of the post-war period: to the fact that theatre programmes of the 1930s and 40s show spots, where swastikas were meticulously cut out, thereby pointing to the question of remembering and dealing with National Socialism in Germany. Also on view are her most recently produced films, photographs and photo-engravings.
