André Kertész: Kips Bay Park

'The moment always dictates in my work ... Everybody can look, but they dont necessarily see ... I see a situation and I know that its right.' (A.K.)
André Kertész develops his unique brand of realism as a result of his way of seeing the moment and knowing just the right time to capture it. His lyric pictures and notably graphic vision influenced generations of photographers, and have retained their communicative power right up to the present day. He frequently charms everyday reality into yielding moments of poetry or surrealism. Some of his pictures from the 1920s, in particular, (The Fork, Chez Mondrian, Satyric Dancer) have become icons of photographic history. In Paris Kertész was one of the avant garde of surreal photography; the Galerie Sacré du Printemps gave him his first solo exhibition in 1927. Moving to the USA in 1936 he entered a period of obscurity, only being discovered again in the 1960s.
Galerie Berinson is showing vintage prints of André Kertész, some of them never seen before, so paying homage to one of the greatest photographers of the 20th century.
