The title of the exhibition stands for the dissolution of pictorial worlds, the blotting out of contours, the transition to abstraction.
In her radical work Anna Hand restricts herself to black and white photography, creating monumental pictures out of long exposures taken at night, and captured with the camera obscura. Things appear and disappear, so that temporal expanses are recorded that are at the same time expanses of light. The word 'exformation' suggests itself.
The Danish photographer Nikolas Theilgaard works with great patience and persistence on his central theme, which is landscape. Here the important thing is the metamorphoses, the peripheral perceptions not just the prospects offered by a single view. He captures levels of transition, in which the sense arises of something about to happen. An enigmatic element remains.
In her investigation of formal boundaries, Anja Knecht adopts a similarly systematic approach. Taken from the world of things and of nature, her subjects are separated out from their original context by means of the parameters of photography using coloured light. This lifts them into a different phenomenological context, as photochromatic interpolations.
