Silke Rodde: Welwitschia mirabilis
© Silke Rodde
Berlin photographer Silke Rodde invites us to travel into the microcosm of the Botanischer Garten Berlin. Her playful approach to the world of plants enables us to perceive enigmatic details in the macro range. Mysterious landscapes arise before the camera, or come into being when the images are subsequently processed on the computer. The photographer immerses herself in the plant universe, by tracing the veins of a leaf with the lens or pressing forward towards the root in order to reveal the fragile filigree work of nature. She captures the variety of pattern and structure, so enabling us to see the logic that animates the architecture of the plant. What has never been seen before becomes visible, while the familiar facts of botany undergo alienation.
In Silke Rodde's pictures the emphasis is not so much on experimental photography as a stylistic option what fascinates her is rather the way in which botanical reality is already so given to experiment. These digital photos were taken in the last three years, always in the macro range.
