In his video installations and photographs Sebastian Stumpf probes the boundaries of his environment and crosses them effortlessly. His self-presentations demonstrate the pragmatic use of small free spaces. In this way he investigates the relationship between the body and space.
The short video sequences document physical actions which Sebastian Stumpf carries out and films in various exhibition rooms. It may be observed how a figure in the video paradoxically makes use of the enclosed spatial setting in order to leave it. This performance is then executed in a precise overlay of the video presentation with the real space. Projected space and projection space thus become one and the same. The disappearance of the figure marks the end of the film sequence, leaving the viewer with questions both about the relation of body to surrounding space and about the nature of temporal perceptions. Stumpf's installation under the auspices of Talents 13 has been specially created for C/O Berlin and it is only being presented at this venue.
