The artistic skill of Vassiliea Stylianidou focuses on the juxtaposition and intermingling of real and imaginary topographies and the creation of virtual spaces of human coexistence. Her work refers to the notion of utopia (as a virtual non-space) and its socio-political dimensions. Stylianidou's landscapes function mainly as psychotropic spaces, in which either 'object-creatures' (the produce of digital processing) emerge in fine choreographies of rhythm and immobility or human figures come into view. The interaction of unfamiliar presence with significant silence defines their movement.
The viewer is involved in the reality of the work and becomes a participant in a post-real, ironic and whimsical view of the world. (Dr Sotirios Bahtsetzis, 2006)
