'Walking on Ice Authors' Photography in West Berlin'
Galerie der Kunststiftung Poll

Hans W. Mende: Talk Show, 1975
© Hans W. Mende
The exhibition shows works by Berlin photographers who were particularly influenced by the political and cultural situation of West Berlin, and who reflect contemporary conditions in their pictures in a variety of ways. The photographs on view were taken in the late seventies and early eighties, with prints from the same period.
The title of the exhibition, 'Vom Gehen auf Eis' ['Walking on Ice'], is a reference to the diary of the film director Werner Herzog, 'Vom Gehen im Eis' ['Walking in the Ice'], published in 1978. This described his walking on foot in the winter from Munich to Paris, where he hoped to visit the mortally ill film critic Lotte Eisner.
A text by Enno Kaufhold accompanies the exhibition.
