The artist Maja Weyermann has been focusing in her work since 1999 on the constructedness of reality. Her current project, Real-Time-Nomads, has received sponsorship from the European Cultural Foundation and is showing at the Uqbar Project Space. It combines photographs with video projections, as well as a Citywalk which includes sound collages.
The starting point for Real-Time-Nomads is the observation that immigration has long since ceased to be just a peripheral phenomenon it is now an essential component of urban reality. The resulting cultural variety gives Weyermann occasion for an exciting trip around Berlin. Retailers from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds engage in dialogue with the artist, making it possible for spaces from their childhoods to be reconstructed. These are then simulated virtually by Weyermann and presented as photos. Viewers are also offered the option of a Citywalk. Here they can visit the business premises of the artists interviewees, and see the video works that are shown there.
